Shocked...

I started The Glass Castle last night.  It's a memoir by Jeannette Walls, and I have to say I am shocked by what  I'm reading.  I'm about a quarter of the way through, and this book has been a page turner for me.  I can't imagine a childhood like this.

I was also reading today that Jennifer Lawrence from The Hunger Games movie may be set to star in the upcoming movie version of The Glass Castle.  I think this book will make a very interesting movie.

Now off to do some reading...

  1. That book has been on my to read list for a long time, too. One of the most shocking memoirs I ever read was "House Rules." There is a whole life surrounding the publication of that book, too. It is crazy! The father denies everything that his daughter claims happened to her, and he even set up a website to "prove" it...but the only thing he proves is that he is just as messed up as she said he is. Ugh. Well, keep us posted about this one!

    1. Even though it's disturbing I am fascinated by this story. Should I read "House Rules"? Do you recommend it?

  2. I was fascinated by "House Rules," but it is disturbing. So, I don't know if you would want to read it or not. Maybe check out the description and reviews on Amazon. It isn't a memoir that leaves you feeling good, for sure! But, it is a fascinating example of what happens when someone publishes a memoir and the family gets upset. I guess that the memoir and the life surrounding it fascinated me the most.

    1. Thanks Susie. I'll look into it. Have you read "Running With Scissors"?

  3. No, I haven't. It is another title that I keep seeing around! I have heard that it is good, though. Have you?

    1. I haven't read it either, but I've seen it mentioned a lot with House Rules and The Glass Castle. I may look into that one. It sounds very interesting.
